My Story

I didn't grow up immersed in nature, I grew up in London, where my connection to the natural world stretched to watching the seagulls steal food from my unsuspecting school friends lunchboxes. That doesn't mean I wasn't always fascinated by the natural world. For as long as I remember, I've always wanted to work with animals. I was very lucky in my academic career to be a researcher in animal behaviour, studying in the deepest jungles in Belize to running a remote research station in the wilds of the Kalahari Desert.

As much as I loved my studies, it was very hard to make a career or living out of it. So I shifted focus to numbers, becoming a data scientist for management consultancies and market research agencies. But the call of the wild never died. I always wanted to spend every moment I could in between family commitments and my jobs bird spotting or looking for fungi. Despite all the stress my corporate life threw at me (and it threw a lot!), nature was always there to provide some respite. It allowed me to get out of my own head, and right the ship, ready to get back to my spreadsheets with refreshed vigour and focus.

Which leads me to what Re: Nature is all about. I've ridden the storm of a hectic corporate life, and nature was the dependable sail which always helped me keep my ship headed in the right direction. So I'm sharing its secrets with others.
